Series Delevopment

Like I said Candy Candy was created by Kyoko Mizuki and Yumiko Igarashi (in my earlier post). The series began as a prose novel by Kyoko Mizuki and later team up with manga artist Yumiko Igarashi to be published in 1975. The manga was serialized from April 1975 to March 1979 on the Nakayoshi magazine published by Kodansha and Chuokoronsha, and there were nine volumes in compiled books. It was the first to won the first Kodansha award for shojo in 1977.

The series was also adapted into a Anime, Toei Animation is the studio that did production for the anime (TV and Movies) and aired on TV Asahi . The TV series ran from October 1, 1978 to February 2, 1979, it lasted for 115 eposdies. There were also two movies, the first Call of Spring/May Festival was released on March 18, 1978 and the second Candy Candy's Summer Vacation was release on July 22, 1978. The remake film was released on April 25, 1992 but there is more movies in the anime series, but they never got released internationally.

I decided not to profile the series popularly as you find out in this next post.
